Chaldon’s Open Spaces

Welcome to information about the footpaths and walks in the village of Chaldon

Here you will find maps showing all the footpaths, routes and historical and nature notes for self-guided walks, and dates and descriptions for the annual Spring and Autumn Footpaths Walks which have walk leaders.

There are links to other sources of information, including about the public open spaces in and very near to Chaldon.

Whether resident or visitor, we hope that you find something of interest to you here.

Chaldon has a notable history of looking after its public paths and rights of way. In the 1920s, Martin Coles Harman, who gave Six Brothers Field to the village as an open space, was also involved in ensuring that rights of way in Chaldon were preserved, and indeed, enlarged.

Chaldon residents walked each of its footpaths regularly twice a year from the 1920s until about 2016. This tradition was restarted by Chaldon History Group’s Liz Bonsall in October 2020. There were six walks of varying lengths designed to cover the network of official paths and bridleways within Chaldon. A seventh walk was added in 2020 to cover the new eastern area of the village (added through a boundary revision in 2000). Liz has brought together a group of volunteer walk leaders – currently 16 people, all Chaldon residents or ex-residents.
The Spring and Autumn Walks are now run by Chaldon History Group with support from Chaldon Community Trust (free use of the Village Hall for teas after the walks) and from Chaldon Village Council.

The development of this website was done by LMWD and made possible by funding from Chaldon Village Council in 2025. The website is run by Madeline Hutchins and Liz Bonsall of the Chaldon History Group.
